Student arrested with loaded gun at charter school in East Boston

Boston police say this gun, a Highpoint 9mm, was loaded with two rounds when it was found in the possession of a student at Excel Academy at 401 Bremen St. in East Boston on Nov. 17, 2021.
A student was arrested after bringing a loaded firearm to a charter school in East Boston, police said.
Officers said the incident occurred at the Excel Academy Charter School, located at 401 Bremen St., shortly after 3:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Sign up for our NewslettersPolice said the weapon was found inside a backpack by a member of the school staff. School staff told officers that they were conducting an administrative search of students, which was in response to the sale of vape products on school property, when they found the loaded gun.
The male student was subsequently detained by school staff and the gun was secured before officers arrived. The student was then taken into custody by Boston police without incident.
The firearm was determined to be a Highpoint 9mm with two rounds of ammunition in the magazine.
The juvenile student, who was not identified by police, is being charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm on school property and unlawful possession of ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Chelsea District Court.
