A suspect has been arrested for allegedly hanging a dog to death earlier this month in the east Las Vegas valley, according to arrest records.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police released a portion of video from the incident on Oct. 4, saying detectives discovered a dog hanging from a fence near Nellis Boulevard and Vegas Valley Drive.

Detectives learned through surveillance video that a man walked the dog on a leash into the parking lot and then hanged it.

Police canvassed the area and identified Carlos Fonseca Jr. as a suspect, matching him to the red streaks in the hair of the person caught on video, an arrest warrant states.

Fonseca was on parole for battery with a deadly weapon and lied to his parole offices about his whereabouts after LVMPD publicized the video, according to the warrant.

Jail records indicate Fonseca, 27, was booked into Clark County Detention Center on Tuesday, Oct. 19. He faces four counts of willful or malicious torture and killing of an animal, along with violation of parole. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
