Tampa Police Arrest Man Accused Of Armed Carjacking, Kidnapping

TAMPA, FL — Within 22 minutes of being notified that an armed carjacker was on the loose in the city, Tampa Police apprehended a man in the stolen vehicle.

At 11:20 p.m. Sunday, Tampa Police received a call from the Bartow Police Department reporting that a Red Kia Sorento was carjacked earlier in Lakeland. The victim's three children, aged 2 to 6 year sold, were in the vehicle at the time of the carjacking and released several blocks down the street.

The Kia was spotted near the 1200 block of East 18th Avenue in Tampa. Patrol officers saw the Kia traveling west on Floribraska Avenue toward North Nebraska Avenue. They called in a helicopter to monitor the Kia's movements. When the driver of the stolen Kia pulled into a Sunoco gas station in the 2300 block of North Nebraska Avenue and got out of the vehicle, officers quickly took him into custody.
