JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP - A teenager was charged with arson after allegedly setting fire on Saturday to a vacant house on Leesville Road and the flames ended up spreading to an occupied home next door, according to Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 complaint of a possible structure fire in the area of Ohio 598 and Leesville Road in Jefferson Township, Kent said in a news release.

Fire crews arrived at 11:33 a.m. on the scene at 6867 Leesville Road and requested mutual aid from Crestline Fire Department, Galion Fire Department and Whetstone Township Fire Department.

The fire had spread from the unoccupied home at 6867 Leesville Road and caught the occupied home at 6885 Leesville Road on fire as well, according to the news release.

Crews were on the scene for about four hours.

After an investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office a 14-year-old juvenile whose name isn’t being released was taken into custody on arson charges and held at Richland County Juvenile Detention Center, the sheriff said in the news release.
