Teen Killed, at Least 9 Others Hurt After Shootings in North Lawndale, Officials Say

A 14-year-old boy is dead and at least nine other people were taken to area hospitals after multiple shootings took place within a span of just 10 minutes in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood Wednesday evening.

According to Chicago police, the shootings took place three blocks apart. The first was reported at approximately 6:01 p.m. near the intersection of 13th Street and Christiana, according to Area 4 Deputy Chief Ernest Cato.

In that shooting, a total of five victims were hit, including a 14-year-old boy. The teen was struck in the head by gunfire, and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A 16-year-old boy was also shot in the head, and he was taken to area hospital, where he is in grave condition, according to police.

A 24-year-old man was shot in the left shin, a 22-year-old man was shot in the left foot, and a 24-year-old man was shot in the right hip in the attack. Police say all three men were hospitalized, and their conditions have stabilized.

The second shooting was reported just 10 minutes later near the intersection of Douglas and Ridgeway. According to police, multiple assailants opened fire at the scene, injuring four teens and a 22-year-old man.

An 18-year-old man was shot in the upper body, and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, according to police. A 14-year-old boy was shot in the right arm, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the right leg, and a 17-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to his back. All were taken to area hospitals in good condition.

The 22-year-old man was hit in the right thigh, and is also in good condition, according to police.

According to Total Traffic, police activity has shut down Christiana Avenue north of 16th Street, and it is unclear when the roadway will reopen.
