News release from the Livermore police department:

LIVERMORE, CA — On June 20, 2022, around 8:50 p.m., #Livermore Police responded to a report of an armed carjacking that occurred at the 3000 block of West Jack London Boulevard. When officers arrived, they spoke to the victim who was practicing parking and driving his father’s gray Honda Odyssey.

His father was watching on the sidewalk when the suspect’s car, a silver Mazda 5, pulled up next to the victim’s minivan. A passenger in the Mazda then got out and pointed a rifle-type gun at the victim. He told the victim to get out of the Honda. The victim complied and two suspects took off in the minivan.

At 8:57 p.m. California Highway Patrol located the minivan driving on eastbound Interstate 580. CHP attempted to stop the minivan but the suspects did not comply. A pursuit with speeds in excess of 100 mph began that lasted more than an hour. The suspects drove east into Tracy, northbound on Interstate 5 into Stockton, turned around, and headed southbound on Interstate 5.

CHP performed a PIT maneuver (pursuit intervention technique) and ultimately stopped the vehicle at Santa Fe Road and El Capitan Road in Ballico. The two suspects were taken into custody.
