Three people have been arrested after an investigation found thousands of dollars were stolen from a student body bank account at Simi Valley High School, according to police.

The investigation began on June 1 when a student contacted police to report fraudulent activity on the Associated Student Body's financial account. The investigation found nearly $7,000 had been illegally taken from the account in May.

Over the next four months, the investigation identified the man who accessed the account as Jake Garcia, 29, of West Hills. A search warrant was served at his residence and evidence related to identity theft was recovered as a result, authorities said.

Further investigation found the person who provided Garcia with the Simi Valley High School account information, among other account numbers and identifying information, was Tyla Sorrentino, 39, of Woodland Hills. A search warrant at Sorrentino's residence recovered hundreds of pieces of evidence related to identity theft and unemployment fraud, according to police.

The search warrants also yielded two unregistered firearms, more than $30,000 in cash believed to be fraudulently obtained and two stolen cars. A third suspect was arrested on firearm violations over the course of the investigation.

Garcia was arrested on suspicion of identity theft, grand theft and petty theft. Sorrentino was arrested on suspicion of identity theft, transferring identity theft material and felony conspiracy. The third suspect was arrested on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a gun and ammunition. All three were booked into county jail.
