Two dead in Oroville Airport plane crash

OROVILLE — A plane crash off the runway of the Oroville Airport left two dead Thursday.

Reports came in of the crash at around 12:20 p.m. Thursday regarding a small plane, said Butte County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Megan McMann.

Cal Fire-Butte County Capt. John Gaddie said the two individuals who died were the only ones occupying the aircraft.

The cause of the crash as well as the exact cause of death for the two on board is still under investigation. The names of the deceased have not yet been provided.

An investigation is underway by both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Response to the crash was a joint operation by the Sheriff’s Office, the Oroville Fire Department and Cal Fire-Butte County.
