Vehicle with young woman inside found in Skagit River

MT. VERNON, Wash. – Search and rescue crews say they have recovered a vehicle with a young woman inside from the Skagit River near Mount Vernon. 

The Mount Vernon Police Department says a woman called 911 just before 10 p.m. Friday to say she had driven a car into the river at the Edgewater boat ramp in Mt Vernon.

When the first officers arrived, they saw a car in the river but it swept down river before rescue crews were able to arrive. 

Search and rescue crews searched the river surrounding Edgewater Park until 1 a.m. Saturday morning but were unable to find the woman or the car.

Search operations resumed Saturday morning. Mount Vernon Police say crews located the vehicle at 11:30 a.m. 300 yards down river from the boat launch. A young woman was inside the vehicle. 

Police believe the woman is the original 911 caller. 

Mount Vernon PD are investigating the incidient but say they do not suspect foul play. 

Crews were unable to remove the car Saturday beccause of river conditions.
