Detectives in Bergen County are investigating the apparent drowning death of a woman who was found Tuesday night on the ground near a hot tub.

Police were called about 10:25 p.m. to a home in the 400 block of Terrace Avenue on a report of a possible drowning, according to police Chief Joseph Rinke.

The woman, whose name was not released, was found “on the ground, unconscious and unresponsive next to a hot tub, located in the rear of the house,” Rinke said in a statement. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Local police and investigators with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office determined there was no foul play involved in the death, Rinke said.

The woman’s body was taken to a medical examiner’s office and a cause of death is pending an autopsy, the chief said.
