A woman allegedly shot her neighbor multiple times following a dispute over barking dogs, according to Georgia police.

Flowery Branch police raced to the 5200 block of Chattahoochie Street following reports of a shooting at about 11:34 a.m. on November 29.

When officers arrived, they found a woman standing in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.

The woman had been struck twice and police "implemented lifesaving measures on scene by utilizing a tourniquet." She was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A Flowery Branch spokesperson said in a Tuesday, November 29, Facebook post there had been a dispute between the two women.

It read: "Upon further investigation, it was determined that the dispute originated over a complaint of barking dogs.

"The investigation also revealed that, a 56-year-old female entered the victim's residence and confronted her about the barking dogs before presenting a firearm and discharging it towards the victim multiple times."

According to the Flowery Branch Police Department (FBPD), the last known condition of the victim was that she was being treated for her wounds and that she was in a stable condition.

The Gun Violence Archive, a database that collects information about shootings from across the U.S., said this month 115 people in Georgia had been injured after being shot.

Flowery Branch Chief Christopher Hulsey said: "This is incredibly unfortunate and could have ended in catastrophic results.

"There could have been more innocent individuals injured or killed. I am proud of the quick response time and sound decision-making of our officers and thankful that this incident was not worse. I would also like to thank Oakwood Police Department and the Hall County Sheriff's Office for their assistance."

Fonda Spratt, 56, has since been charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, home invasion, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, and two charges of aggravated assault.

Police said additional charges were possible as the investigation continues.

Newsweek has contacted the FBPD for comment.

In June, a 10-year-old girl allegedly shot a neighbor who had reportedly been arguing with her mother.

Police in Orlando, Florida, arrested the girl over the shooting that took place on May 30. She was then charged with second-degree murder.

Officers said the shooting happened at the Jernigan Gardens Apartments after the girl's mother, Lakrisha S. Isaac, 31, reportedly got into an altercation with Lashun Denise Rodgers, 41, in the complex's courtyard.

After the two got into a fight, the girl allegedly shot Rodgers using a firearm that was in her mother's bag.
