Woman tries to deliver narcotics through Uber Eats: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter

Trafficking in drugs: Mayfield Road

A man reported March 14 that while working for Uber Eats, he picked up a package from a woman at the Gates Mills Place apartments for delivery to a home in Willoughby.

He said that inside the bag were two rock-like substances wrapped in paper. He believed them to be narcotics.

The man canceled the delivery and turned the bag over to police. He said Uber Eats drivers are now able to deliver packages upon request.

The incident was referred to the drug enforcement unit.

Assault: SOM Center Road

Officers investigated an incident at the middle school March 10 in which a sixth-grade girl was said to have punched a seventh-grade girl and pulled out a chunk of her hair.

Surveillance video confirmed that the younger girl was the aggressor.

The incident was forwarded to the juvenile court, with recommended charges against the 12-year-old Mayfield Heights girl.

Resisting officer: Golden Gate Boulevard

Officers responded March 10 to the Comfort Inn on a report of a guest who was past his checkout time and refusing to open his door.

They escorted the man, 21, out of the hotel and, while waiting to confirm a warrant, he fled from them on foot.

He was subsequently taken into custody behind the AT&T store and arrested for resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.

Shots fired: SOM Center Road

Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area near Knollwood Cemetery and Acacia Memorial Park around 12:50 a.m. March 11.

They did not locate any suspects, but found tire tracks from a vehicle that had driven over numerous tombstones.

Three shotgun shells were found in a disturbed area. They were collected for evidence.

Criminal mischief: Mayfield Road

At 3:45 a.m. March 11, officers found a man inside a transport van that was parked on the property of Nick Mayer Ford.

The Cleveland man, 23, said he was just keeping warm. But there was evidence that he had been smoking marijuana inside the van.

He was advised of two active misdemeanor warrants and cited for criminal mischief.

Having weapon under disability: Bonnie Lane

A drunken man, 44, was arrested at his home March 11 after he argued with family members while holding a gun.

Officers located the gun by a fence in the back yard by following footprints in the snow.

The man was charged with having weapons while intoxicated, domestic violence and aggravated menacing.

Domestic violence: Mayfield Road

A woman reported March 11 that her mother was having a psychotic episode and had punched her and poured chemicals onto the carpeting at her Gates Mills Place apartment.

Upon investigation, the mother, 49, was arrested for domestic violence.

A 22-year-old sister of the tenant was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after she yelled at officers and tried to run away from them.

The tenant said her mother and sister came to live with her recently because they were homeless.

Stolen vehicle: Mayfield Road

A vehicle was reported stolen from the Villa Serena apartments March 14. No suspects were identified, but license plate-reading cameras hit on the vehicle in several areas.

Theft by deception: SOM Center Road

An unknown man was able to trick a CVS clerk March 13 into accepting a lesser amount of cash to purchase three $500 Visa gift cards and pay only around $400.

The suspect appeared to be with a woman and has been suspected of the same crime at CVS stores in Florida, Connecticut and Ohio.

Obstructing official business: Mayfield Road

Willoughby Hills police reported around 10:30 p.m. March 15 that a vehicle had fled from a traffic stop onto Interstate 271 traveling more than 125 mph.

The registered owner was a resident of the Gates Mills Place apartments, which was where officers from the city located vehicle.

The driver tried to flee, but was taken into custody after deployment of a Taser.

The man, 21, was charged with driving under suspension, obstructing official business and improper handling of a firearm in a vehicle.
