"You guys laundering money around here?": McDonald's Accidentally Gave a Customer $5,000 Cash in a Bag
Josiah Vargas went to an Indiana Mcdonald’s drive-thru and got way more than he ordered.
Alongside his ordered Sausage McMuffin, Josiah found several thousand dollars. His TikTok video surpassed 2.4 million views and received over 25k comments.
Vargas was confused by the findings
The man showed his TikTok viewers that, alongside his order, he received plenty of money.
The viral clip shows a confused young man saying: “Why? There’s a couple of thousand dollars here.”
He continued, “Like, why would they do this? Why would they give this to me?”
Despite the shock, he knew what to do: “What the f—? Now I have to return it because I’m a good person, I guess.”
Vargas kept repeating, “Why would you guys do this to me? Do you know how bad I want this money? Why put me in this situation?”
Though morally, he knew what he wanted, it was a lot of money.
The workers called Vargas a blessing
Upon entering McDonald’s in Elkhart, Indiana, Vargas joked with a Mcdonald’s worker: “You guys laundering money around here?”
The worker realized the man was there to return the money and asked if they could hug Vargas. Another worker called Vargas “a blessing from God.”
While in the car home, the man said, “I cut that short, but they were just all hugging me and thanking me,”
Ending the video, Vargas gave his version of the moral of the story. He said, “When I was driving away. They called me back in. They gave me $200.”
The man was relaxed and smiling when he stated, “Do good, people. Return $5000, got $200 and free McDonald’s for a month. Good trade value and maybe a viral TikTok.”

Comments on TikTok were majorly positive
Most TikTok users were impressed, and the video has over 500k likes.
One person wrote, “You did such a good thing for them!”
Another echoed this sentiment: “It’s called integrity, doing the right thing even when no one is looking!”
Even Santa Claus was impressed. The official account for Santa said, “Your integrity is worth more. Good job.” Vargas replied that he was a big fan of Santa.
While the young man’s actions were inspiring, many expected more from McDonald’s, with a person writing, “McDonald’s Corporate y’all better send a card or something.”
Another added, “They owe this guy free Mcdonald’s for at least a year, not a month.”
Vargas’ sister started a GoFundMe
Haddie Keenum, Vargas’ sister, started a GoFundMe with a funny name: Get dookiedoeboy some McMoney!!
Dookiedoeboy is Vargas’ Instagram handle.
The proud sister said this was a test from the universe. In the description, she said that her brother did the right things and even saved jobs for McDonald’s workers.
The GoFundMe page raised $1640, with its goal being $5000.
Haddie said about her brother: He deserves it!! He’s one of the most honest and hardest workers I know. And I grew up with the kid!!”
McDonald’s representatives did not comment on Vargas’ selfless actions.
