Contrary to what President Trump said this week, he was thanked for his involvement with Sen. John McCain's funeral in Washington last year.

Rick Davis, McCain’s former campaign manager, thanked the Trump administration on behalf of the McCain family in August during a press conference.

“The combined efforts of the Trump administration, the White House, Secretary [Jim] Mattis, and the Department of Defense especially, and the Military District of Washington are very experienced in these issues related to the logistics of a funeral of this magnitude. And we really thank them for coming together very quickly and pulling together all the federal resources," Davis said.

McCain died after a battle with brain cancer on Aug. 25 at the age of 81. Afterwards, McCain's body lay in state at the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol and had a funeral at the National Cathedral, in which former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama delivered eulogies. Trump was not invited to the events, which were planned by the senator himself.

While in Lima, Ohio, on Wednesday, Trump told a crowd he had not received any expression of gratitude from McCain's family or inner circle for his role in the planning of the funeral, which appears to be referring to his authorization of a military transport from Arizona to D.C.

“I gave him the kind of funeral that he wanted — which, as president, I had to approve,” Trump said. “I don't care about this, but I didn't get a thank you. That is OK. We sent him on the way, but I wasn’t a fan of John McCain.”
