A Tennessee barber is offering discounted haircuts for kids who read while in his chair.

Jermaine Scott said he noticed many of the kids who sat in his chair for a $15 haircut at Ligons Barbershop were glued to tablets and other screens, so he wanted to come up with an alternative for them.

Six months ago, Scott started offering $10 haircuts to children who read while getting their haircut.

Scott goes to the library and provides the books for the kids. He offers the discount opportunity each Thursday.

“You have to educate your mind,” Scott said of his efforts. “Education is key."

Scott himself said he didn't see the importance of reading while growing up, but now he hopes to help instill its importance in the next generation.
