Troy Kotsur's Stolen Oscar Recovered After Arizona Car Theft

CODA star Troy Kotsur recently had his Jeep stolen, which contained his Academy Award statue, while he was in Mesa, Arizona. The actor was in his hometown of Mesa to receive the key to the city and was asked to bring his Oscar along. In a since-deleted tweet, Kotsur said that “a little kid” stole his Jeep but “the city of Mesa” found it along with his Academy Award. Sgt. Charles Trapani, the supervisor for the Mesa Police Department, told People that the Jeep was stolen by “two juvenile male suspects”. They admitted to the crime and were later charged with theft of means of transportation. Kotsur made history at the 2022 Academy Awards by becoming the first ever deaf male to win an award for acting. His co-star Marlee Matlin was the first deaf actor to win an Oscar for her role in the 1987 movie Children of a Lesser God.
