A 75-year-old man was enjoying a bike ride at Apache Wash on a beautiful day. He was on the Sidewinder trail, a route he takes regularly.

Jim Watkins lost control of his new mountain bike, flipping into a bush and landing on a rattlesnake.

He says the bite felt like a bee sting.

Jim was stuck in the desert, 30 minutes from other people and help. He rode his bike out, thinking of the story of Hugh Glass, depicted in "The Revenant." Glass was attacked by a bear and crawled 45 minutes to get help.

He called poison control for help. Time was of the essence. Poison control convinced him to go to the hospital, where he received anti-venom treatment.

An expert says rattlesnake bites can be dangerous if it takes a long time to get help.
