The man killed in a Saturday shooting in far northeast Dallas was being robbed by two people, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.

Malik Donte Brown was booked Sunday into the Dallas County jail on a capital murder charge. His attorney did not respond to a request for comment.

Police are searching for a second suspect they believe may be involved in the fatal shooting.

About 6:20 p.m., officers responded to the 9100 block of Skillman Street and found a man lying on the ground in a parking lot with gunshot wounds, according to police. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the man to Presbyterian Hospital, where he died of his injuries, the affidavit said.

Court records and the Dallas County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Robert Lee Wrightsil, 25.

According to the affidavit, officers found video surveillance that showed two people approaching the victim. They had a conversation for a few minutes then a physical fight began, the affidavit said.

A witness told officers that the victim said, “I ain’t got nothing,” as the two suspects surrounded him, according to the affidavit. It added that the one suspect stood over the victim and searched his pants. Police wrote in the affidavit that the victim was carrying a lot of money.

Police learned that Brown, one of the suspects, was being treated for a gunshot wound at a hospital. The affidavit said officers learned at about 6:30 p.m. that Brown was being treated for a gunshot wound on his right leg at Medical City Hospital.

In an interview with officers at Dallas Police Headquarters, Brown said he didn’t know the second suspect.

He remained in custody Wednesday, with his bail set at $500,000.
