California likely can't afford Newsom's spending plan, Legislative Analyst Office says
California's Legislative Analyst Office, which guides the state Legislature in its spending decisions, said Tuesday there's a slim chance the state will be able to afford Gov. Gavin Newsom's proposed spending plan for next year. In an analysis of the governor's updated spending plan, the LAO said if the Legislature approves his plan as proposed, the state will likely face even more budget problems in the next five years, which the state is already projected to face more budget deficits.
