Gov. Ron DeSantis has raised $177.4 million for his reelection campaign as of Sept. 9.

The amount is the newest record for a gubernatorial campaign without adjusting for inflation, according to Open Secrets. His campaign garnered $31.4 million since January 2021, and his state-level PAC Friends of Ron DeSantis, which is not subject to contribution limits, reported $146 million since January 2019.

Meanwhile, DeSantis's opponent in Florida's election for governor, Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL), has raised $20 million. DeSantis set a monthly fundraising record for himself in April, raising more than half of Crist's total, with $10.5 million.

Out of the top five contributors to the current governor's campaign, three are Florida natives, but the top contributor is the Republican Governors Association, which has given $20.35 million. Nevada's Robert Bigelow of Bigelow Aerospace is the fourth top donor with $10 million. It stands as Florida's record for a single individual contribution.

There have been 42 billionaires who have donated to the campaign, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. Altogether, they represent 15 different states.

"Where’s Ron DeSantis? He's campaigning with fellow anti-abortion extremists in Wisconsin and Kansas," Crist tweeted Saturday. "He’s abandoned Florida and our people to run for president — and this November, we’ll abandon him at the polls."

DeSantis's record is also notable because the previous record-holder was a billionaire in her own right. Meg Whitman unsuccessfully campaigned to be California's governor in 2010 with a net worth of $3.3 billion. The GOP candidate personally gave $144.2 million to her campaign, ultimately raising over $176 million. The second-place holder, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, raised nearly $300,000 short of Whitman's record, but similarly donated $172 million of his own money toward his campaign. For his own reelection campaign, Pritzker has only raised just over $133 million. DeSantis has a net worth of $319,000 himself.

Open Secrets also analyzed the fundraising efforts of the top 20 presidential contenders, finding that DeSantis has raised more money since Jan. 2021 than President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump. A federal political committee called Ready for Ron has a reported 58,000 supporters for a possible presidential run from DeSantis.
