One of President Donald Trump’s impeachment defenders is coming back for more.

Eric Herschmann, formerly a law partner at Kasowitz Benson & Torres, revealed in an unrelated court filing on Monday that he is starting a new post as senior adviser to the president. White House spokespeople did not respond to requests for comment. Herschmann’s bio page on the firm’s website has been removed. Herschmann's former firm represented Trump at the onset of special counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation into the Kremlin‘s 2016 election interference.

Herschmann testified in Trump’s defense during his Senate impeachment trial, discussing in detail former Vice President Joe Biden’s work in Ukraine and his son’s membership on the board of a scandal-dogged energy firm there.

“You can pay family members from our highest government officials and no one is allowed to ask questions?” Herschmann said during the proceedings. “What was going on?”

He also dug into Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), one of the Democrats’ impeachment managers.

“Can you imagine what House manager Schiff and his Democratic representatives would say if it were President Trump’s children on an oligarchs payroll?” Herschmann said.

It was not immediately clear what would be in Herschmann’s portfolio at the White House. Before joining the Kasowitz law firm, he was vice chairman of the board at Southern Union Company and counsel for CitiBank. Before that, he was an assistant district attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. That office is now investigating Trump’s finances, according to a recent court filing.
