Gisele Fetterman, the wife of Democratic Senate nominee John Fetterman, claimed on a podcast episode that "swimming in America is very racist."

On Thursday, Gisele mentioned on the iGen Politics podcast that her husband's Pennsylvania lieutenant governor's mansion came with a pool. The pair used the pool to teach minority children how to swim, said Gisele.

"And while we did not want the mansion, the mansion came with a pool," she said. "And the pool I wanted. And the dream was to open this pool and make it a public pool. Turn it into the people's pool. And ensure that young people across Pennsylvania could learn how to swim and learn water safety, and kind of work to right some of the wrongs."

FETTERMAN RESPONDS TO DEBATE CRITICISM, SAYS IT's ‘ABOUT GETTING BACK UP AND FIGHTING’

"You know, historically, swimming in America is very racist," she added. "Usually, when you look at drowning statistics, it usually affects children of color, because of a lack of access."

Gisele's remarks come days after her husband appeared for a debate with Republican Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz. Fetterman, who suffered a stroke in May, struggled to enunciate words and has been criticized by Republicans as unfit for office.

Fetterman started the debate by declaring, "Hi, good night, everybody."

Pennsylvania's Senate race could decide who takes control in the November midterm elections of the chamber. A poll conducted prior to the Tuesday debate by Franklin & Marshall College found Fetterman had a 5 percentage point lead over Oz. A FiveThirtyEight polling average casts Fetterman with a 2 percentage point lead over Oz.
