The man began yelling from the balcony during the intermission of the musical at Baltimore's Hippodrome Theatre, according to audience members.

The incident reportedly frightened audience members, with many believing that the outburst was the precursor to a shooting.

Richard Scherr, a contributing sportswriter for the Sun who was in the audience, shared a video of the aftermath on Facebook, which shows audience members standing and looking toward the balcony.

"I'll be honest, I was waiting to hear a gunshot. I thought, 'Here we go,'" Scherr told the paper.

The man shouting was escorted out of the theater and the performance continued, but Scherr said that the incident made it difficult for him to "pay attention to the second act."

"My heart was just racing," he said.

The outburst is the latest in reported anti-Semitic incidents in the U.S.

Last month, the deadly mass shooting in a synagogue in Pittsburgh renewed national discussions on anti-Semitism. The Anti-Defamation League has reported a significant rise in acts of harassment, vandalism and violence targeted at Jewish people in 2017.

"Fiddler on the Roof" follows a Jewish community facing persecution in imperial Russia, and is originally based on a series of Yiddish-language stories.
