CALIFORNIA — In a rare recall election, residents of California head to the polls to choose to either affirm the incumbent Gov. Newsom or elect a new, potentially more conservative governor.

While Newsom leads in polls, he made one final push, bringing in President Joe Biden late Monday as an attempt to secure his office. This election will likely have an effect on national politics, including the 2022 midterm elections. Biden stressed the issues seen in this campaign were the same seen in the 2020 presidential election. Historically, the party in control of the White House loses seats during the midterms.
