Authorities in Spain have ordered a man to pay a hefty fine after he was caught throwing a refrigerator off a cliff for a joke about recycling, The Guardian reports.

In footage shared by the Asociación Unificada de Guardias Civiles, or the Unified Association of Civil Guards Spain, last week that has been going viral online, the man could be seen pushing the device off the edge of a cliff as a man off-camera jokingly says, "Recycling."

"Let's recycle it," the person continues.

In a separate video, the man could be seen being made to carry the device back up the cliff after being ordered by police to retrieve it in a punishment being hailed as instant karma online.

According to the local authorities, the man has since been fined 45,000 euros, or roughly $50,400, for the crime.

In a follow-up tweet shared by the department, officials also pointed to a recent interview given by the man to a local outlet, in which he claims his punishment for littering was "worse" than those handed to "murderers, politicians, thieves."

The AUGC Guardia Civil also shared a video of another incident it is investigating, in which another man can be seen in footage pushing a washing machine off a cliff.
