Lake Houston area residents filled up The Overlook in Atascocita on Monday to see Texas Senator Ted Cruz as he makes one of his last stops before Election Day.

Before Cruz went on stage District 127 State Representative Dan Huberty spoke in favor of the senator.

“We need people like Ted Cruz. We need Ted,” Huberty said.

Huberty then engaged with the crowd and asked how many residents were affected by flooding, and a majority of the crowd raised their hands.

“(Cruz’s) opponent did not vote to give us (flood) relief, yet he comes to our community and tells us that we expect to vote for him,” Huberty said.

Cruz later came on stage and was greeted with a cheerful crowd holding his campaign posters.

The republican senator touched on topics, such as the state’s financial health, job creation, second amendment rights and immigration.

“There are three key issues on the ballot; jobs, freedom and security,” Cruz said.

Cruz said Texas is producing 33 percent more oil than what was produced in 2016, helping make the United States the No. 1 oil producer in the world.

The national unemployment level is at the lowest level in 49 years, according to Cruz.

As the rally was coming to a close, Cruz told people to go out and vote on Election Day if they haven’t done so.

Lake Houston area resident Sharon Caruso was one the many people in attendance anxiously waiting to hear from Cruz.

“I like what (Cruz) has to say about the borders, I would like to shut our borders down,” Caruso said. “I like where our economy is going I think that Ted has done a great job.”
