The U.S. Congress will hold a special joint session beginning at 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday to count and certify the Electoral College presidential election results. Congress is expected to vote to affirm Joe Biden's victory.

In prior years, the counting of Electoral College votes has been a brief event. This year, however, it could potentially stretch several hours long or even into Thursday, as several Trump allies in Congress have indicated they will object to the certification.

U.S. Rep. Andy Harris, the only Republican member of Maryland's Congressional delegation, plans to join in the challenges to Biden's victory.

The allocated time for debate is two hours for each objection. There could be as many as eight objections or as few as one.
