HOUSTON — A social media post about an ATM that was mistakenly spitting out $100 bills instead of $20 caused a bit of a stir Sunday night in northwest Harris County, police said.

A Bank of America customer reported using the ATM at FM 1960 and Interstate 45 Sunday night to withdraw $20.

However, the customer said he received a $100 instead. The post caused a late night run at the ATM, with cars lining up and even a few fights erupting.

The incident went on for several hours, with police being called to the area to disperse the crowd and guard the ATM until it was deactivated.

Officials said the customers may have believed they were receiving free money, however, nothing is ever free.

Officials with Bank of America said the withdrawals were made with the ATM cards and the associated pins and that the correct withdrawal amounts will be applied to those customers.
