Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser got in a maskless photo with comedian Dave Chappelle before her mandate requiring face coverings went into effect Saturday.

John Falcicchio, the district's deputy mayor for planning and economic development, tweeted a photo Friday of himself, Bowser, Chappelle, and two others together inside a room. Chappelle, a native of the district, performed at The Anthem, a local entertainment venue, to a sold-out crowd.

The venue announced ahead of the show that masks were required to be worn at all times, although it's unclear where exactly the photo was taken.

Bowser announced Thursday that effective 5 a.m. Saturday, every person older than 2 years old must wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday began recommending indoor masking among the vaccinated in areas where COVID-19 infections are increasing.

“We will continue to do what is necessary to keep D.C. safe,” the mayor said.
