The heartburn medication that has been causing concern will no longer be seen on the shelves of Hy-Vee, according to a news release from the company.

Hy-Vee, Inc. announced it will temporarily suspend all Zantac brand and Topcare brand ranitidine products.

This comes after a national announcement expressing caution due to an alert issued from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that the brands can possibly cause low levels of nitrosodimethylamine, a probable human carcinogen, the release states.

The FDA is investigating whether low levels of NDMA in ranitidine pose a risk to patients, the release said.

A recall was issued on Topcare 75mg ranitidine products, although no other Zantac brand products have been recalled.

Customers who purchased these products can return them to Hy-Vee for a full refund.

Anyone with questions is asked to speak with their health care provider or their Hy-Vee pharmacist.
