Sometimes the Wordle word of the day can be a tricky one to crack. But instead of getting frustrated about the five-letter brain teaser, why not see first if Newsweek's tips and clues can jog your memory.

As is customary, Wordle users have just six attempts, or less, to solve the puzzle. They have the help of a color-coded system, in which letters turn gray when they are not in the word, yellow when they are in it but in the wrong place, and green when everything is correct.

Despite these handy color signals, sometimes those clues aren't enough to help you figure out the word of the day.

Fear not, however, as Newsweek has crafted a few useful hints to ensure you have a helping hand when working on Wordle puzzle #307. Plus we've provided the answer for today's game too.

Wordle Origins

Software engineer Josh Wardle originally created Wordle for him and his partner, Palak Shah.

He first began work on the game in 2013 and later returned to the project during the COVID pandemic.

For a period of time the game was enjoyed only by Wardle and Shah. But in October 2021 Wardle made it available to the public, and the game became an instant hit around the world.

At the height of its popularity, Wordle reached a peak of more than 45 million users a day, and inspired similar daily puzzles like the globe-trotting guessing game Worldle and the math-based Nerdle.

By January 2022, Wardle sold the game to The New York Times Company for an undisclosed seven-figure sum. The word puzzle game officially moved over to the news publication's platform in February.

The graph below, provided by Statista, shows Wordle's rise in popularity when Wardle originally owned the game.
