1 killed in four-vehicle crash involving box truck on I-77 in York County

YORK COUNTY, S.C. (WBTV) - One person was killed in a crash involving four vehicles that shut down part of I-77 in York County Friday afternoon.

The crash happened on I-77 southbound at the 89 mile marker near the Welcome Center around 4 p.m.

Trooper say all four vehicles were headed south on I-77 near the 89 mile marker unit when a driver stopped for traffic and a box truck crashed into the back of their vehicle.

The first vehicle then crashed into the two other vehicles. The driver in the first vehicle died from their injuries

Traffic was heavily backed up due to a large emergency response at the crash scene.

This crash remains under investigation at this time, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.
