10-year-old boy playing with gun shoots little sister, police say

A 10-year-old boy shot his 6-year-old sister early Thursday morning in Harrisburg, according to police.

Police say the girl is in critical but stable condition.

The boy found found a stolen .40 caliber gun in a house and was playing with it, according to investigators. The girl was hit in the chest.

Police are now looking for 24-year-old Tremayne James, who they say stole the gun.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. in the city's Hall Manor neighborhood, across the street from Foose Elementary School.

As many as six police vehicles were at the scene, with the investigation taking place mostly inside one town home.

Harrisburg police issued the following statement:

"On 12/7/17 at 0124 hours, the Harrisburg Police responded to the 1100 block of Cloverly Road for a shots fired call in a residence. Officers arrived observed a large amount of blood on the floor and followed it until they found a 6-year-old female lying on the floor with her mother trying to apply pressure to the gunshot wounds. Officer immediately began to apply pressure on the girl until EMS responded. EMS immediately began to treat the child for the gunshot wound and the severe amount of blood loss. The child was then transported to the Hershey Medical Center where she is now listed as critical but stable. The child is expected to recover from her injuries.

During the investigation, it was determined that Tremayne Antonio James hid a gun in the residence where a 10-year-old boy was able to find it. The boy fired the stolen 40 caliber handgun which struck his sister in the chest.

James is wanted for the listed charges and is considered dangerous:
