A drive-thru vaccination event is being held Friday for residents of Socorro, Fabens, San Elizario and Clint by El Paso County Emergency Service District #2 and the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

The event at 16001 Socorro Road in Fabens began at 9 a.m..

Friday's vaccination event is part of the fifth week of vaccination drive-thru events.

The vaccine administered was either the Moderna or Pfizer brand.

As of noon, vaccines were still available, according to El Paso County Judge Ricardo A. Samaniego said.

Other drive-thru vaccination sites have been held in Vinton, Tornillo and Vado in efforts to provide COVID-19 vaccines to residents of El Paso county.

Past drive thru vaccines have been successful so far and future vaccination events are being planned based on vaccine availability according to Chief Roger Esparza, fire chief of El Paso County ESD #2.

Esparza added these events also heavily rely on the amount of volunteers available to administer the vaccines and assist with traffic management. 80 volunteers were reportedly expected during the vaccination event in Fabens, according to Esparza.

"All my staff, all my administrative staff, all my fire marshals and some of my fire fighters are there doing administration of vaccines- we also work in conjunction with the Texas Department of Health and Human services. They have a team that goes out to us and we’ve been partnering up during these Thursday or Friday events to make this happen along with TDEM," said Esparza.

People were encouraged to print out their documents and bring them filled out with eligible hand-writing to advance the process of registration and vaccine administration.
