MILFORD, MA — Three local students who plan to study medicine were awarded scholarships from Milford Regional Medical Center this week. One student won the Perry Volunteer Scholarship, and the other two won the Milford Regional Auxiliary award.

Here's more from a Milford Regional press release:

Milford Regional Medical Center has awarded two scholarships to high school graduates who plan to pursue medical studies in college.

The Milford Regional Auxiliary awarded their annual scholarship to Olivia Macleod of Milford, and Akshara Shankar of Holliston. Each recipient received a $1,000 scholarship. Olivia plans to study biomedical engineering or microbiology, while Akshara plans to pursue a career as a doctor or researcher.

The Perry Volunteer Scholarship was awarded to Melanie Bisbee of Whitinsville. Candidates for the scholarship are Milford Regional volunteers who best exemplify the characteristics valued by former volunteers Bill and Anne Perry: volunteerism, athletics and a sense of humor. Melanie plans to study nursing with the goal of working in pediatric emergency medicine.
