6 people, including children, seriously injured in crash on Route 1

Six people, including children, suffered serious injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on Route 1 late Saturday night in Wrentham, Massachusetts.

Wrentham police first shared news of the crash in the stretch of Route 1 between Madison and Thurston streets at 9:40 p.m.

The two vehicles involved in the crash, both SUVs, were spotted on the side of Route 1 south in the area of 900 Washington St., which is less than a mile from the Interstate 495 interchange.

Police said the six people were transported to hospitals in Rhode Island. There has been no update on the victims' conditions.

That area of Route 1 was closed until shortly after 11 p.m., as police investigated the scene and crews cleaned it up. Leaf blowers were being used to remove shattered glass from the roadway.
