Allen Park Digital Cinemas, one of metro Detroit's last dollar movie theaters, is closing.

The five-screen theater at 6601 Allen Road, which shows second-run movies for $1 on weekends and $1.50 for evening showings, announced on its website that Thursday will be its final day of business.

No one could be reached for comment Wednesday morning in the theater's office. Rumors of the closing began swirling on Facebook earlier this week.

The cinema opened in 1942 as the Allen Park Theatre. Its single theater was later divided up into five screens, according to the Dearborn Historical Museum.

The cinema has been operated by metro Detroit-based MJR Digital Cinemas, but was not included in the company's pending sale to Belgian movie theater chain Kinepolis Group, a source said. An MRJ representative did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

The final slate of movies at Allen Park: "The Art of Racing in the Rain," "Spider-Man: Far from Home," "47 Meters Down: Uncaged," "The Secret Life of Pets 2" and "Aladdin."
