ARL rescues 58 cats, kittens in hoarding case from Mitchell County home

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa said Thursday that is helped rescue 58 cats from a hoarding situation in northern Iowa.

The ARL of Iowa said its Mobile Response Team traveled to Mitchell County to assist local law enforcement in the rescue.

“When our team arrived, the smell of urine hit them immediately,” the ARL of Iowa said in a news release. “Cats and kittens were everywhere, and the house was dirty with urine and feces.”

According to a news release from the ARL almost all the rescued cats suffer from severe upper respiratory infections, mites and fleas. One of the kittens died.

The ARL of Iowa said many of the cats will spend weeks in quarantine due to ringworm, which is highly contagious.
