A closure on US Route 97 north of Kent Tuesday morning was due to a flaming banana truck.

The situation, which was not very 'ap-peel-ing,' saw the truck almost totally incinerated and the bananas thoroughly flambéed. Drivers were advised to split and use other lanes.

Not monkeying around, bunches of Oregon Department of Transportation workers helped clear the scene, and all lanes reopened around 10 a.m.

The truck driver escaped unharmed.

Hopefully, the incident will not foster any ongoing issues.

An ODOT worker noted that, strangely enough, this was the third banana truck fire they had seen in their career.
