Nov. 26—The Belton Police Department announced it will double the number of personnel at this year's Christmas parade and Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday.

The decision to add the extra officers was made after a man drove through a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Sunday night, leaving six people dead and more than 60 others injured.

Darrell E. Brooks Jr., 39, of Milwaukee, has been charged with several counts of intentional homicide.

"Please note there has been absolutely no information to indicate there is any increased risk at this year's event," the Belton Police Department said on Facebook Thursday. "This decision was made along with the Belton Emergency Management Agency out of an abundance of caution."

The Mayor's Chrismas Tree lighting and Christmas on Main parade events begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, according to the city's website.
