BOSSIER CITY, La. (KSLA) - The Bossier City Council today recognized the bravery of three men who saved the life of a woman who was trying to jump off a bridge.

Bossier City police officers responded to the Shreveport-Barksdale Highway bridge June 1 after getting reports that a woman appeared to be trying to jump off into the water below. A good Samaritan driving by also stopped to help the two officers who pulled the woman to safety.

The Bossier City Council publicly honored police Cpl. Matthew Bragg, police Officer Brandon Bailey and Rawlis Leslie Jr., a private citizen, with the Life Savers Award during its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, June 15 at 3 p.m.

Officer Bailey was unable to attend the meeting, but the other two men say they are honored to receive the award.

Both men say they will never forget that day. Leslie says he’s been in the shoes of the woman before and is glad someone could help her.

Bragg says it’s his duty to serve people and that day was like no other.

“I truly believe I was put there at the right time to help this lady. Regardless of what she was going through, me being present to take action like I did it wasn’t a conscious decision it was just something that happened,” he said.

Braggs says he has tried to reach out to the lady they saved but has not been able to get in touch with her.
