The case is travel-related, and the patient was tested after coming into contact with someone else who tested positive for the disease.

The public is encouraged to continue shelter-at-home procedures.

“In order to protect the health and wellbeing of all Butte County residents and to decrease impact on critical healthcare services, if you are sick with mild symptoms, please isolate at home” urges Dr. Andy Miller, Butte County Health Officer. “If you develop severe symptoms, call your medical provider immediately.”

People with mild symptoms who are not sick enough to go to the hospital are encouraged to self-isolate and do not need to be tested, Butte County health officials said.

Residents should also continue to follow CDC guidelines on how best to prevent the spread of the coronavirus by:

  • Washing hands with soap and water.
  • Stop touching your face, including: eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Stay away from people who are sick.
  • Stay home if you are sick, especially from work, school and public places.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
