CANTON, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Canton Central School District plans to reopen for in-person learning on Tuesday, January 19.

The district moved to remote learning on Thursday after its hot water boiler at the high school broke down.

“Without this boiler, we are unable to provide safe food preparation for students throughout the district. We are also unable to provide the required hot water at restroom facilities throughout the high school,” the district said in an announcement.

Officials said they hope to have a replacement installed by the end of next week.

The district also said it’s short 4 members of its transportation department due to COVID-19 exposure.

Students attending out-of-district English Language Learning Programs and out-of-district BOCES Special Education classes will continue to attend those programs.

Seaway Tech Students are tentatively scheduled to return to those programs on Monday, January 11.
