LAKEWOOD - The township's school board attorney is picking up the tab for police at a local Dunkin Donuts, as a way to thank law enforcement for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Michael Inzelbuch and his wife are treating all 110 working law enforcement officers on-duty Tuesday to free donuts of their choice at the Dunkin' Donuts location near Todd Plaza as they said they are 100 percent supporting the department.

Inzelbuch, who speaks to the public once a day on a podcast, said that all the families and members of the community who live in Lakewood are very appreciative of what the township's police department is doing to help them.

"There's a lot of misunderstanding going on, what appears to be," said Inzelbuch. "The Lakewood police are doing a great job as always. We want to maintain a great relationship between us (school district) and the department."

Police Chief Gregory Meyer said the department has already had a few gestures of kindness and thanks from local businesses throughout Ocean County to show support of law enforcement working through this difficult time.

"I know it is nice for our officers and all first responders considering the work that they are doing," said Meyer. "Imagine each and everyday having to respond to calls for service and help where you do not know if you are going to come into contact with a disease that may kill you or that you may bring home to a loved one."

Meyer said with many people working from home and laying low, law enforcement have no other option but to go to work and serve the community.

"I applaud business owners as well as individuals that remember our first responders' sacrifice and to take a moment and thank them," said Meyer. "We will win this fight and we will be stronger afterwards."
