David Deutchman, nicknamed ‘ICU Grandpa,’ dies at 86
David Deutchman volunteered at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for 14 years and spent much of his time there holding babies, most of them premature, in the neonatal intensive care unit. When he learned he was terminally ill with cancer in October, hospital staff organized a 30-car drive-by to show their appreciation. Deutchman died earlier this month at age 86, with his wife of 58 years, Ronnie, by his side. Sunday TODAY’s Willie Geist remembers a life well lived.
