After reported threat on Dept. of Health and Human Services, DC roads have reopened

Police activity near the Department of Health and Human Services building in downtown D.C. led to road closures and evacuations Wednesday.

Capitol Police reported in the afternoon that the police activity had cleared and the roads that were closured were back open.

The communications chief for Rep. Don Beyer tweeted that the Capitol Police evacuated at least the U.S. Botanic Garden, the O'Neill House Office Building and the United States Department of Health and Human Services building.

The following roads were also closed due to the police activity:

  • Independence Avenue between 2nd Street SE & 4th Street SW
  • Washington Avenue SW between Independence Avenue and C Street SW
  • 3rd Street SW between Pennsylvania Avenue NW and E Street SW
  • C Street SW between 2nd Street and 4th Street SW
  • 2nd Street SW between Washington Avenue and D Street SW
  • D Street SW between 2nd Street and 4th Street SW
  • 4th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Virginia Avenue SW

Authorities had asked drivers near these areas to take an alternative route.
