A Texas man charged with drunken driving caused a three-car Des Moines crash that sent four people to the hospital early Saturday morning, police say.

Christopher Shae Slaughter, of Stephenville, Texas, has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driving on the wrong side of a highway, and two counts of serious injury by vehicle — OWI related, according to Polk County Jail records. The 36-year-old is being held on a bond of $11,262.50.

Sgt. Paul Parizek, spokesman for Des Moines police, said Slaughter was driving his pickup truck southbound in a northbound lane about 1:15 a.m. Saturday on Southeast 14th Street near Maury Street. He caused a three-vehicle crash that sent four people to the hospital. Two of them are seriously injured, Parizek said.

Slaughter suffered minor injuries. All of those involved are adults, police say.
