More than 60 people protesting the lack of action on climate change were arrested Wednesday morning for blocking a street near City Hall.

Dubbed a “die-in,” members of the environmental activist group Extinction Rebellion gathered near City Hall in lower Manhattan demanding the government tell the truth about the effects of climate change, according to the group’s website.

The 62 who were arrested lied down on Centre St. blocking traffic. Two climbed light poles and unfurled a banner which read “Declare Climate Change Emergency” written on it.

Two more were charged with reckless endangerment.

The group plans a series of other events through the week.

Meanwhile, 290 people were arrested in London in a similar protest.
