Driver Shoots 2 Carjacking Suspects in Alexandria, Killing 1

One man is dead and another is injured after they were shot as they apparently attempted to steal a car, police said.

The shooting took place just before 3 p.m. Friday at an Exxon gas station in the 2300 block of Richmond Highway near Mount Jefferson Park in Alexandria.

Evidence markers filled the parking lot, where a car was riddled with bullets.

“There was a white car there, door open,” a witness said. “There was a body laying there beside it, and the guy was obviously injured. He was moving his arms and stuff.”

Police said five people were involved. Everyone is accounted for.

Dismissal at nearby George Washington Middle School was delayed, Alexandria Public Schools said.

“In general, the neighborhood is changing for the better, but there’s just a lot more kind of petty crime that happens, and it’s something that we have to be aware of,” said Bennett Deolaz, who lives nearby.
