Daily Press 11/23/2022 Kim O'Brien Root, Daily Press

A fire that started in the sauna of a Williamsburg apartment complex caused damage to part of the building early Wednesday.

The fire did not spread into any living spaces and no residents were affected, city spokeswoman Nicole Trifone said.

Firefighters initially responded to a water flow alarm at High Street View Apartments at 150 Kings Manor Drive just after 4 a.m., according to the Williamsburg Fire Department.

Upon arrival, crews found a small fire in the sauna that appeared to have been extinguished by the fire suppression system. The fire, however, had extended into the ceiling, firefighters discovered. It was brought under control just before 5 a.m.

The fire caused extensive damage to the sauna and reached the yoga room on the floor above, according to a news release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Fire crews from James City and York counties assisted in the call.
